Title: Robots that interact with people, and learn from experience

Abstract: Most of today's robots are confined to factory floors and warehouses. Robots that interact with humans and learn from experience would unlock various new applications. I will present my research on Human-Robot Interaction (HRI) and Robot Learning implemented on a variety of robotic platforms including mobile robots, self-driving cars, robotic arms, and drones. I will present projects on the manipulation of everyday objects, human-robot object handovers, Augmented Reality applications to HRI, deep reinforcement learning for robots, and human-aware navigation.

Bio: Dr. Akansel "Akan" Cosgun is an incoming Associate Professor at Deakin University, Australia. He received his Ph.D. in Robotics from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2015 and previously held research positions at Microsoft, Toyota, and Honda. His research interests include applications of machine learning to robotics and human-robot interaction, with an emphasis on practical solutions to real-world problems.
